Osteoporosis Doesn’t Mean the End of an Active Life

Megan Anderson Physical Therapy Offers New Wellness Program

Megan Anderson Physical Therapy introduces a new wellness program to empower women living with osteoporosis to stay active without fear.

If you have osteoporosis or have received an unsettling bone scan, you may be fully aware of how hard it can be to find sound advice on how to stay active.

You read articles online or talk to a fitness instructor and realize you are getting conflicting information. You may have tried starting a new gym program or found a home program online and don’t love how you feel afterwards. There can be a great deal of fear when it comes to deciding how you can stay fit, active and live your full life of traveling, hiking, walks on the beach, playing with grandkids, or any other physical activity you desire. Sometimes just knowing where to start your journey with osteoporosis can be overwhelming.

“It’s really important to us to find simple ways to add movement and joy into our clients lives,” said Dr. Megan Anderson, PT, DPT, owner of Megan Anderson Physical Therapy.

Staying active in a sustainable, functional, and fun way will not only help keep your bones strong but it also has some very wonderful emotional benefits. It doesn’t have to be a crazy hard, five-day-a-week program.

“Our clients come in frustrated, overwhelmed, and fearful of making things worse. They are also not ready to stop living very active and full lives. Many of them are newly retired with plans to travel the world and spend lots of time with their grandchildren,” Anderson said. “When they leave our practice, they have learned ways to move and hold themselves that feel simple, practical, and sustainable.”

Megan Anderson Physical Therapy goes beyond traditional physical therapy to really dig in on what motivates our clients on an emotional level. The team wants to know the client’s ‘why’ and then come up with a plan that supports feeling excellent in their bodies.

“Your time is valuable, so we offer hour-long appointments that are always with your therapist, no more than once a week,” Anderson said. “It absolutely warms our hearts to hear when someone has gone on a trip and felt better than they ever have before with the tools that we have given them.”

Megan Anderson Physical Therapy recently welcomed Dr. Caitlin Ruggiero, PT, DPT, who heads up the osteoporosis wellness program. Ruggiero specializes in working with postmenopausal women to support them in living their lives to the fullest.

Ruggiero also offers pelvic floor support, a staple of the practice since its inception.
